Starting next week, check out the new ADVENT button on our parish app! These daily reflections along with the Mass readings in the READINGS button are a great way to prepare our lives for the coming of Our Lord.
Bishop Malooly has asked that the Litany of St. Thomas More be prayed after all Masses this weekend. We pray through the intercession of St. Thomas More, patron of Statesmen, Politicians and Lawyers, that our elected official may follow in his footsteps of integrity and strength of character. We also pray for peace during this contentious national election.
The Litany can be downloaded here and you can print it out and bring it with you to Mass this weekend.
Not sure what to do on November 3? This is a good video on voting from a Catholic perspective. It does not endorse a particular candidate or party.
All Saints’ Day is a solemn Holy Day of Obligation celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven.
Although millions, or even billions of people may already be saints, All Saints’ Day observances tend to focus on known saints –that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church.
This year, November 1 falls on a Sunday, so the feast of All Saints will be celebrated at our weekend Masses.
ALL SOULS DAY
The Feast of All Souls is Monday, November 2. On this day the Church commemorates the Faithfully Departed. Our Christian belief holds that the faithful on earth can help the departed by prayers, the giving of alms, and the celebration of Mass. We will celebrate a Vigil Mass for this feast with a special Mass on November 2 at 6 PM. During this Mass we will remember all of our friends and family who have died, but especially those who had a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas during the past year.
Join Catholic Charities and Bishop Malooly on Saturday, November 21, 2020 for the 5th Annual Bishop’s 5K run/walk. This year’s event will be held in person and virtual.
The event takes place at St. Mark’s High school. Visit www.fusionracetiming.com and hit the Bishop’s 5K link to register and see all the sponsorship levels and prizes that are available. There is also a prize level for the Diocesan Catholic Schools with the most participants, including family. There is a $29/registration fee. For those under age 18 the fee is $19/registration. All proceeds benefit Catholic Charities outreach.
Did you know that one in 10 residents in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland receives at least one service from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington? You can support our most vulnerable neighbors and enjoy a great morning workout by participating in this run.
Next week, parishioners throughout the diocese will be asked to help make the dream of a Catholic education a reality for struggling Catholic families. Monies raised through this collection coupled with the diocese’s tuition assistance endowment provides financial assistance to hundreds of deserving families who seek a Catholic education for their children but who cannot afford the full cost of tuition.
Through this collection, our Bishop is reaching out to believing and worshipping Catholics like you to assist him in ensuring that the Catholic commitment to total education of our children does not fade away because people cannot afford it. Since the Church has the mission to educate and since this mission directly affects the quality of life we experience as Catholics, all of us have a stake in Catholic education.
It is in light of this reality please consider supporting next week’s Share in the Spirit collection. God bless you for your goodness.
